Week of resistance, 100+ arrests, disrupts London arms fair
At the beginning of September, over one hundred people were arrested during a week of nonviolent direct actions that disrupted the world’s largest arms trade fair, the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition held every two years in London. Thousands of people who were part of many peace, anti-nuclear, faith and social justice groups came together in a series of strategically coordinated actions, including daily blockades, multiple lock-downs, citizen’s inspection, a flashmob die-in and Festival of Resistance.

Seven arrested at Hancock drone base
On Monday morning, September 25, seven members of the grassroots group Upstate Drone Action were arrested as they delivered a citizen’s war crime indictment to the chain of command at Hancock Air Force Base in DeWitt, New York. The activists blockaded the main entrance to the drone base with a banner reading “Rich Man’s Wars – Poor People’s Blood” and a huge dollar sign dripping with “blood”. They were charged with trespass and disorderly conduct, and will be arraigned October 3-5.

Two arrests during police raid of House of Resistance in Bure, France
Early on the morning of September 20, at least 150 French police were involved in raids on the House of Resistance in the small village of Bure and other activists’ residences. Dozens of police broke through the door at the House of Resistance, and also forced their way into camp trailers and vehicles parked on the property to gain entrance. Residents were held for up to ten hours in the rooms or camp trailer where they were found. Two people were taken into custody and to separate local police stations, then released later in the day. A copy machine, computers, hard drives, phones, papers, books and other property were seized. For many years, the House of Resistance has served as the hub of local opposition to a national nuclear waste research center established 20 years ago outside the village in northeast France, a center now tapped as the permanent disposal site.
