Treason Charge Threatened
for Photo Editor

Police in Vermont have twice arrested and held up to two hours on suspicion of treason the photo editor of the Brattleboro Reformer. Jason Henske was first arrested last November, and again June 26 while photographing the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant. The county attorney has twice declined to file the charge suggested by plant officials and police: treason, for "obtaining maps and plans" under a World War I-era Vermont law protecting public utilities. Henske did not surrender or delete any photos and his work was published in a series of articles about the aging nuclear power plant. No charges were filed.
