- State Department

A pair of April demonstrations at the State Department called for an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands, and U.S. military and diplomatic support for Israel's occupation. Global Exchange brought together Muslims, Jews and Christians with other people of conscience - 22 in all - for an April 5 sit-in on the sidewalk in front of the State Department. They were arrested for "incommoding", and most paid a small fine before being released that night or the next day. Three people refused the fine, and their charges were eventually dismissed.

Charges were also dismissed in the cases of Rabbi Michael Lerner, scholar Cornel West and 18 others arrested April 11 at the State Department, again condemning U.S. support for Israel's military assaults on the Palestinian people and calling on international intervention to protect both Israelis and Palestinians.
