- McDill AFB |
On Sunday, May 26, more than 250 people demonstrated to "Stop the War Machine" at the U.S. Central Command headquarters, located at Ft. MacDill in Tampa, Florida. It was the second major protest this year at Central Command, from where the war in Afghanistan is directed. When the speeches were over, veteran and former SOA Watch prisoner of conscience Dwight Lawton carried a peace flag ahead of eight other adults and one juvenile, as they walked into the road to shut down the base.
They were quickly arrested and charged with unlawful assembly. Bond was posted and the ten were released that evening pending court dates this month.
