For the second year in a row, Armed Forces Day morphed into Disarmed Forces Day, when more than 80 people assembled at the gates of Vandenberg Air Force Base on May 18 to protest space warfare. A small band of counter-demonstrators waved their stars and stripes while two women walked across the boundary line, where they were arrested.
MacGregor Eddy and Liz Rondelle were cited for trespass and released. Their trespass trial was scheduled for the federal court located inside the base, a restrictive arrangement rejected by earlier peace defendants, as it was by these women. Their trial was rescheduled for August 16 before a federal magistrate in a local Santa Barbara courthouse.
