Seven people, including a University of New Mexico instructor and two students, were arrested at an Albuquerque gas station the morning of April 8, calling for an end to U.S. military aid to Israel and declaring that "long-term U.S. military involvement in the Mid-East is intricately linked to multinational corporate oil interests that prioritize profits over national autonomy, democracy, and the environment."
While about 50 supporters nearby held signs declaring "No More Blood for Oil" and "Free Palestine," the seven used chains and pipes to lock themselves around all four gas pumps. They remained there for over an hour until firefighters arrived to cut them free for waiting police. Some of the seven refused to identify themselves to police, delaying their release and adding to their charges. All were released by late that night, and have since pleaded not guilty to multiple charges of trespass, refusing to obey an officer and unlawful assembly. Trial dates are pending.
