President Bush was greeted by hecklers during an April 8 speech in Knoxville, Tennessee. On three occasions, police moved quickly to remove people shouting "We will not fight your racist war" and demanding nuclear disarmament. The nearby Oak Ridge nuclear weapons factory is the organizing focus for some of those arrested, who are members of the Oak Ridge Environmental Peace Alliance. The President looked on gratefully as some of the crowd stood to cheer the forced removal of the free speech practitioners.

Secret Service agents took the identification and organizational affiliation of six people arrested at the scene, and asked if they intended to harm the President. None were inclined to do so, and all were released without charges.
