Anti-War Protest at Northwood |
A day of nonviolent direct action disrupted operations of the British military headquarters at Northwood, northwest London, December 10. Three Catholic Workers were the first arrested after they poured red paint on the entrance sign and constructed a shrine of photos of Afghan dead. Two others cut their way into the base to "check out what the military was up to," before being apprehended, and another was arrested as he climbed the fence into the base. Several others were taken in as they helped sustain a blockade that closed the front gate for four hours, while police just dragged most of the blockaders back across the road. Those arrested were released by the end of the day, and their cases are still in the courts.
