-Silence Trident
Two veteran activists jailed for sawing down a stretch of the Project ELF antenna were released from federal prison this summer. Mike Sprong was sprung July 19, after serving two months, and Bonnie Urfer completed her six month sentence August 27. Urfer's refusal to pay restitution for the action they called "Silence Trident" brought her a summons to return to federal court in Madison December 12, when prosecutors will ask that she serve another year behind bars.

"Project ELF is being used now, aiding in the bombing campaign that is killing innocent civilians in Afghanistan," Urfer says. "Paying any amount of money to the U.S. Navy is tantamount to hiring a hit man to murder. I simply cannot pay to kill another woman's child."

DECEMBER 13 UPDATE

Bonnie Urfer appeared before federal magistrate Stephen Crocker in Madison on December 12, and was sentenced to serve five more months in federal prison for having not paid restitution. She returned to federal prison January 4. Her prison address is listed in Inside and Out.
