Tax Day, 2001, brought war tax refusers and their allies out to post offices and IRS offices around the country on April 16. In the tradition of Milwaukee's War Tax Resisters and Casa Maria Catholic Worker, four people were arrested shortly after they entered the federal building with signs and songs, to protest in front of the tax office. About 25 people began the demonstration with a vigil at a busy downtown intersection, then marched to the federal building for leafletting and a rally denouncing the fact that 48.8% of federal income taxes are going towards the military. The four arrested were charged with disorderly conduct, entered a not guilty plea, and were released to await a trial date.
