Four people were taken in handcuffs from the gallery of the Texas State Senate in Austin May 2, after twice disrupting debate on a bill that would profit a private contractor planning to import radioactive waste from the Department of Energy for dumping in west Texas. At the same time, supporters rallied outside as part of an eventually successful, broad-based effort to kill the measure. The four were charged with disrupting a public meeting.
