Thirteen Blackhawk helicopters destined for export to the Colombian military were the focus of a demonstration December 6 at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, Connecticut. Six people attempted to gain entry to the plant and circulate an open latter to employees. The letter detailed some of the abuses of the Colombian military and sought a meeting with the company president. The letter concluded that "to construct these weapons in the face of the evidence that they will be used to harm innocent lives is unconscionable."
"...we feel compelled to ask Sikorsky as a whole, and Sikorsky employees individually, not to participate in the construction of weapons that will only lead to more bloodshed in an already war-torn country."
The six were arrested, cited for disorderly conduct and released. They will return to court in Bridgport on January 23 to plead not guilty and face trial.
