Nevada Test Site
Three major events make up Lenten Desert Experience XX, planned for Las Vegas and at the Nevada Test Site this winter and spring to mark the 20th anniversary of Nevada Desert Experience. The faith-based group will sponsor a morning prayer and action at the test site on Ash Wednesday, February 28, followed by an evening discussion in the city with Bishop Thomas Gumbleton. The event is prelude to a weekend retreat and action March 2-4, featuring Bishop Gumbleton, Janet Chisholm of Episcopal Peace Fellowship and Bruce Gagnon of the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space. The retreat concludes with Eucharist at the Test Site and nonviolent action. Finally, the annual Peace Walk will traverse the 65 miles from Las Vegas to the test site from Sunday, April 8 to Friday, April 13. A nuclear 'Stations of the Cross' liturgy at the test site gate will conclude the walk.
