ANNOUNCEMENTS
...Breaking the Silence: A Call for a New Trident Campaign was initiated August 6 by the Trident Resistance network to stop the planned conversion of America's eight oldest Trident submarines -- four to carry more deadly Trident-2 missiles and four to be conventional weapons launch platforms for Tomahawk cruise missiles. This multi-billion-dollar plan directly serves U.S. strategic interests by providing more stealthy platforms for increasingly common cruise missile attacks on "rogue terrorist states".
The campaign will involve three areas of activity: Education/Outreach, Legislative/ Lobbying, and Direct Action. The latter would involve an ongoing public witness to the proposed conversions as a means of renewing public consciousness of the Trident program as a whole. The focus would be on the Trident bases in Bangor [contact Brian Watson and Liz Roberts at info@gzcenter.org or (360)377-2586] and King's Bay [contact John and Martina Linnehan at metanoia@juno.com or (904)262-5071], the Electric Boat shipyard in Groton [contact Jacqueline and Chris Allen-Douçot at cdoucot@erols.com or (860)724-7066], and other sub-contractors who are identified as being involved in the program.
For more information about the campaign contact Stephen Kobasa at skobasa@snet.net or (203)777-3849.
