NIKITIN REINVESTIGATED - AGAIN
The case of Aleksandr Nikitin
continues to drag on. For a time in February, when his trial in the
Russian Federation Supreme Court in St. Petersburg began, he was in the
international spotlight. When no compelling evidence was presented
on the charge of espionage - the core of which was that Nikitin's contributions
to a report by the Bellona Foundation came from other than public sources
- the court ordered a fourth evaluation of the report by military security
specialists. Nikitin's
attorneys then appealed that the constant delay of justice was a denial
of justice, and the case slipped back to the shadows of legal morass.
A new indictment based on
the latest review is due July 11.
