MORDECHAI VANUNU

Thirty-six Members of Congress wrote to President Clinton in March, asking that he press for Israeli nuclear whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu's release on humanitarian grounds.

In his reply, the President acknowledged concern for Vanunu's conditions of confinement and about Israel's nuclear program.

The U.S. Campaign to Free Mordechai Vanunu continues to circulate an international petition calling for Vanunu's release, and is seeking Senate support for a similar letter to Clinton.

Demonstrations are planned at Israeli consulates and the embassy in Washington, D.C. on September 30, the 13th anniversary of Vanunu's kidnapping and imprisonment.
