Italian pacifist hammers on MUOS radar dish

Early in the morning of November 11, Italian pacifist Turi Vaccaro entered the military installation Muos Niscemi (Caltanissetta), climbed on one of the huge satellite dishes – considered an “instrument of war and death” – and began to hit it with a hammer, causing damage of close to 800 thousand euro. For 34 hours, the long time peace activist remained up on the dish, 40 meters off the ground.  He was arrested on November 12, processed at the court of Gela, and released with an order to remain in the province of Caltanissetta.

At 8:00 a.m. on November 17, a group of around 150 people gathered to protest the annual New Zealand Defence Industry Association conference in Wellington, where over 200 weapons manufacturers were represented. Some of the protesters linked arms and blockaded the two entrances to the arena where the conference was held. At around 11:00 a.m., the police began arresting 28 protesters one by one, hauling them into paddy wagons.  The activists were released several hours later.

Sit-in outside arms merchants conference in Brussels results in 27 arrests
